UOB CIE Autism Employment Student Project for NSS

22nd May 2019

We’ve teamed up with the University of Bristol Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship to support a student project exploring ways to improve local employment opportunities for young people with Autism and Asperger syndrome.Northen Surveying Services Ltd (NSS) is exploring establishing a talent and training programme to support young people with a diagnosis of Asperger’s or high functioning Autism to gain employment within our business and other employers.

Students were tasked with gaining insights from stakeholders and delivering solutions around barriers to successful employment in the West of England Combined Authority region for young people with a diagnosis of high functioning Autism or Asperger’s.

NSS director Tara Northen said:

We’re involved because we care deeply about this topic. When you have a child with a disability, you quickly learn how difficult it can be to gain access to opportunities that create equality in our society. Also, having done further research, we were shocked by the poor statistics around provision and availability of employment for autistic people and those who are academically capable, and wondered if we could make a difference.
