Meet Northen Surveying Services’ latest recruit Jay Kannan, who joined the team back in February as an assistant quantity surveyor.
He grew up in the Tamil Nadu region of India, where he gained a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and work experience before completing a master’s degree in quantity surveying at Nottingham Trent University.
Jay has worked on construction projects involving health care, hotels, schools, and residential buildings in his first months at Northen Surveying.
He said: “Since starting, I’ve learned more about the UK’s construction methods and technologies, which are mostly different from India, and this will help my future knowledge.
“Everything is going in the right direction. Diversity benefits British workplaces because new ideas and opinions from other backgrounds and cultures are always essential; it’s no surprise that employers like Northen Surveying hire a diverse workforce to boost creativity.”
Jay has enjoyed site visits as part of his role and is also learning new techniques and undertaking different industry training as he works towards Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) credentials.
He also enjoys different sports outside of work and has joined a local cricket club.
“I enjoy working with the team here. I have loved the family environment within the business. It’s a great place to live and work.”
