Second Career for Jayson

21st May 2021

Northen Surveying Services welcomes new team member Jayson Lawes, a Trainee Quantity Surveyor who is combining his studies with a role at the business.

It is a massive career change for Jayson, who spent seven years in the Army as an infantry soldier in The Rifles before starting at the University of the West of England in 2019.

He said: “My army career has helped me and given me the confidence to push my boundaries and learn as much as I possibly can and be determined to achieve. I wanted to get into construction and so researched different jobs, including quantity surveying which appealed to me.”

He was welcomed to Northen Surveying in style with a recent team bonding day at Mojo Active and admitted that was a great way to meet more colleagues in person after lockdown!

Jayson has been with Northen Surveying Services for a month and is grateful for the opportunity to put into practice what he is doing at UWE.

He said: “It is supporting what I am learning as the work has been varied and diverse.

“My main job role so far has been measuring the buildings up as the first stage of the learning process and then moving on to bills of quantities. There is a stepping-stone of progression happening. It is really good how I have been supported at Northen Surveying.”

Looking further ahead, Jayson admits his first goal is to earn relevant Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors qualifications, and he has a dream to work in construction development and property in the long term.
